BIO

Aruni is a psychologist (clinical psychology registrar) working primarily with young people aged 5-25 years.

Aruni has significant experience working with children, adolescents and families in various settings including the Royal Children’s Hospital, private practice, community mental health centres and university clinics. She has worked with young people of varying ages and intellectual abilities, including those experiencing anxiety, emotion regulation difficulties, suicidal ideations, non-suicidal self-injury, and interpersonal conflict.

Aruni's research interests also focus on youth mental health. Specifically, her PhD investigated how young people provide mental health first aid to a friend experiencing a mental health problem or crisis. Aruni works closely with Mental Health First Aid Australia in evaluating and creating programs to improve young people's mental health.

Aruni started teaching undergraduate psychology classes at La Trobe in 2019. She has since moved into teaching Master of Clinical Psychology and Master of Professional Psychology students.
