BIO
Dr Clare MacMahon is an expert in Motor Learning and Skilled Performance. She has a BA in Psychology from McGill University, a Masters in Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa, and a PhD in Human Biodynamics from McMaster University. She completed post-doctoral research, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), in Cognitive Psychology at Florida State University (with Prof Neil Charness in the Pepper Institute on Ageing and Public Policy). She has previously worked at Victoria University and Swinburne University before coming to La Trobe in 2018, and has spent research stays at Katholieke Universtitate Leuven, the German Sport University, University of Muenster, and Universite Clermont Auvergne.

- Pathways, development, and skill in sports officials and complex performance domains
- Mental fatigue and physical performance
- Talent development and performance in sport
Clare’s work has involved funding from the Australian Research Council, and the Defense Science and Technology Group, and industry partners including the Australian Football League, National Rugby League, Cricket Australia, Australian Institute of Sport, Australian Sports Commission, Tennis Australia, and the New South Wales Institute of Sport. Clare is also a founding executive member of the Australasian Skill Acquisition Network (ASAN), which promotes skill acquisition research and practice.
