Alicia initially trained as an occupational therapist, working in public and private mental health services, and in teaching roles, before returning to studies in community development. Her passion for improving mental health services led her into the consumer participation field, and research in the area of peer support. She is currently undertaking doctoral studies exploring how clinicians with a lived experience of mental distress and service use can be better supported to use their experiential knowledge in their practice. She also works as a research assistant on projects that capture service users' experiences of care for the purpose of service improvement.
