Amy Baxter Peter Doherty Research Fellow, Biochemistry
Dr Amy Baxter completed her PhD early in 2017 with Dr Mark Hulett (LIMS), during which she investigated the role of membrane phospholipids in the anticancer mechanism of plant defensins. She is now a Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr Ivan Poon, whose group's main research focus is investigating the release of extracellular vesicles from dying cells. Dr Poon's group has recently identified key novel regulators in the apoptotic cell disassembly pathway, which was previously believed to occur via an unregulated process. The group is now focused on understanding how dysfunctions in this process may contribute to disease e.g. autoimmunity, and how manipulating this pathway may be used therapeutically to treat infections and other diseases.
