Allira Hanczakowski Graduate Researcher, European Languages

Allira is a PhD candidate in Italian Studies at La Trobe University. Her practice-based project includes an original translation of the contemporary Italian novel "La Festa dei limoni" into English, with an analysis of translating culture-specific references.

She obtained a Master of Translation Studies (Italian) with Distinction from The University of Western Australia in 2017. Her thesis explored the lexical-semantic aspects of translating emotion words from Italian to English. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, double majoring in Italian Studies and Linguistics, from The University of Western Australia in 2015.

Allira’s first book-length translation, "Beyond the Undiscovered Soul" by David Bellatalla, was published in 2018 by Montura Editing. She has also published journal articles in "The AALITRA Review" and "Colloquy: Text Theory Critique".

She tutors Italian Studies at La Trobe University.
