Amber Karanikolas Graduate Researcher, Crime,Justice & Legal Studies

Amber Karanikolas is a PhD candidate in Crime, Justice and Legal Studies. Their current research is looking at narrative experiences of compulsory treatment in the Victorian mental health system, with a focus on community treatment orders. The overall aim of their research is to provide an account of how experiences of coercion under mental health law can enrich criminological understandings of control and confinement, in the context of carceral expansion in Victoria. Trained as a lawyer, Amber also has experience working in disability advocacy, government and community legal sectors.
