Dr Andrea SimpsonSenior Lecturer Audiology, Audiology
I have dual qualifications in the allied health disciplines of audiology and speech pathology and have worked as a clinician, clinical editor and academic.
My research interests include aural rehabilitation, disability funding policies and the impact of disability on the broader aspects of social inclusion, including access to higher education. I am currently investigating the concepts of autonomy and decision-making as they relate to self-directed funding models for people with disabilities.
Notable highlights include:
My PhD investigated the clinical outcomes of a novel hearing-aid scheme. The scheme was found to have positive benefits for individuals with high-frequency hearing loss. The device has since been commercialised by Phonak Pty Ltd., now known as 'Sound Recover', and is freely available to audiologists around the globe.
I played a key role in establishing the Audiology program at La Trobe University and have been course coordinator since Dec 2014.
