Aidan Carter Academic, Italian

Aidan Carter is an Italian teacher and researcher. He currently teaches in the Italian studies program at La Trobe Univeristy and works as a Research Assistant at Swinburne University of Technology.

He graduated with Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Italian studies from the University of Melbourne in 2017 specialising in sociolinguistics and repressive language policies during Fascism in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. As part of his undergraduate studies he also specialised in Politics/International Relations and French studies, and has experience studying Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Modern Greek and Arabic both in and outside of the tertiary environment.

His research interests include: corpus-assisted language learning, L2 pedagogy, modern Italian literature, the contemporary Italian detective novel, and modern Italian history with particular focus on the Fascist period.

He is also a published author with InStudent Media with whom he wrote an educational textbook for VCE language students.

He is a co-author on an upcoming academic book chapter entitled 'The Axum Obelisk: Shifting Concepts of Colonialism and Empire in Fascist and 21st-Century Rome' in the 2019 volume 'Neocolonialism and Built Heritage: Echoes of Empire in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe' with Routledge Publishers. He also presented at the 2019 Australasian Centre for Italian Studies (ACIS) conference in Wellington.
