Professor Henry Duh Head of Department - CS & CE, Comp Sci & Info Tech

Professor Duh is the Head of Department of Computer Science and Information Technology. He received his degrees in psychology, industrial design and engineering respectively and did his postdoctoral training in the NASA-Johnson Space Centre involved in a virtual reality project. He is also a visiting professor in the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, China, adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Journalism, National Taiwan University, Taiwan and adjunct professor in the School of Computer Science, Vellore Institute of Technology, India. Before joining La Trobe University, he was a faculty member in the School of Mechnical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore and School of Engineering and ICT, University of Tasmania.

Professor Duh is an ACM Distinguished Speaker and has published more than 150 conference and journal papers in HCI area. He was the Co-Director of Keio-NUS CUTE centre (a joint research centre between NUS and Keio University, Japan) and Director of Human Interface Technology Lab Australia (a joint research centre between University of Tasmania and University of Washington). Professor Duh has attracted more than US$5M funding as the Lead CI/PI (or US$10M as CI/Co-PI) from government agencies and industries.

He actively engages with local communities. He is a Board Director of Tourism Northern Tasmania, an Ambassdor of Business Event Tasmania, a member of Australian Council of Deans of Information and Communication Technology, Australia Computer Society (Tasmania Branch), CSIRO/Data61 University Planning Committee and participate in federal and state funded projects such as SenseT program and Australia Research Council ITRH Pathway to Market project and Transforming Mining Value Chain Project.

His current research focuses on user experience and interaction design, HCI and augmented/virtual reality.

Prof. Duh is a private pilot (PPL) and certified advanced ground instructor (AGI) by the Federal Aviation Authority, USA.
