Dr Rebecca Flower Lecturer in Psychology, Psychology

Dr Rebecca Flower (she/her) is a Lecturer in the Department of Psychology and Counselling and an autism researcher with a passion for positive outcomes for autistic adults. She currently leads the Partnership for Employment Outcomes for Autistic People in Society (PEAS) project, which is funded by the National Disability Insurance Agency.

Rebecca completed her undergraduate studies in psychology at La Trobe (across the Wodonga and Bundoora campuses), worked in organisational psychology research at the ACU Business School, and completed her PhD in the School of Psychology at Flinders University, which looked at the ability of autistic individuals to recognise suspicious activity.

Rebecca has worked with individuals on the autism spectrum in school, social skills groups, research and employment settings. Following her PhD, Rebecca spent 18 months as the Research and Innovation Manager at Specialisterne Australia, where she worked with organisations to help them learn about autism and hire autistic adults (including creating and facilitating training), in addition to ensuring processes were evidence-informed and establishing methods of data collection to measure the impact of the organisation.

Rebecca most recently worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the Autism CRC funded Longitudinal Study of Australian School Leavers with Autism at the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre (OTARC). This study is tracking the school and post-school activities, experiences, physical and mental health outcomes of a group of autistic and non-autistic individuals aged 15-25.

Rebecca also conducts research exploring enablers and barriers to successful employment for individuals on the autism spectrum, working alongside industry partners such as the Department of Health and Human Services.

As a first in family university graduate, Rebecca is keen to ensure research is accessible, and is learning how best to do this. Please feel free to contact her should you have questions or comments about her research at r.flower@latrobe.edu.au
