Cherie Green Research Fellow, Psychology

Dr Cherie Green is a postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre (OTARC) in the School of Psychology and Public Health. Dr Green's research focuses on child and caregiver outcomes from early intervention for preschoolers with autism. Her research is underpinned by an interest in understanding social communication and behaviour within the context of early autism diagnosis and support to optimise developmental trajectories and overall outcomes. Dr Green facilitates training for health professionals and researchers in the use of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) as a behavioural assessment for autism across the lifespan.

Prior to her current role, Dr Green's research focused on phenotyping children with autism and their relatives to identify potential biologically distinct subgroups within the autism spectrum. As a Research Assistant and Junior Specialist (2004 - 2008) at the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute (USA), she worked on the Autism Phenome Project conducting MRIs and assisting in behavioural and psychophysiological testing of toddlers with autism. Her PhD from La Trobe University (2013) investigated physical growth in boys with autism and the associations between growth and autism characteristics. She was then a Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the Collaborative Autism Study at the University of Melbourne from 2013-2018, where she investigated the Broader Autism Phenotype in multiplex families of children with autism to identify genetic variants associated with autism.
