Associate Professor Carol McKinstryHOD, Department of Rural Allied Health, Office Of La Trobe Rural Health
Carol associate professor and discipline lead of the La Trobe Rural Health School Occupational Therapy Program which began in 2009 and has students on the Bendigo, Albury-Wodonga, Shepparton and Mildura campuses. Carol has teaching responsibilities in most years of the program.Carol also supervises the research projects of higher degree postgraduate and honours students. Carol has a master of health science, researching the continuing professional development needs of occupational therapists while her doctorate research was a longitudinal qualitative study in workplace learning for newly graduated occupational therapists.Recently her research interest involves challenges for rural workforce, rural mental health and exploring the recovery for people with cancer particularly following treatment. Carol has strong links with OT Australia having served on several national reference groups and is currently vice president.She has presented and participated in state, national and international occupational therapy conferences.Carol has written chapters for occupational therapy textbooks and published journal articles while she is a reviewer for the Australian Occupational Therapy Journal, American Journal of Occupational Therapy, British Journal of Occupational Therapy, Australian Journal of Rural Health and Australian Journal of Primary Health as well as associate editor for the Australian Occupational Therapy Journal.
Carol has extensive involvement with local communities, serving on several boards. She is currently chair of the Rochester and Elmore District Health Service Board and the Bendigo Football and Netball League and a board member of BEAM. She is a recent graduate of the Australian Institude of Company Directors.
