Dr Claire Farrugia Research Officer - Knowledge Transfer, Aust Res Ctr Sex Hlth&Soc

Claire is a researcher at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS). She has expertise in qualitative social research methods, community engagement and knowledge translation and is currently working with the Rainbow Health Victoria team based at ARCSHS. She completed her PhD in Sociology in 2018 from Macquarie University, Sydney and her research spans the sociology of gender and sexuality, race and migration and work. She is particularly interested in the intersection between informal/formal relationships of support in health promotion and social service delivery for marginalised communities.

Claire has worked as a guest lecturer, tutor and researcher at Macquarie University and was most recently employed as the Senior Policy Officer at Gender Equity Victoria (GEN VIC).

Claire welcomes supervision opportunities in the sociology of gender and sexuality, migration and ethnicity and welfare and work. She is also interested in the application of participatory or ethnographic social research methods in a variety of subject areas and as a way to engage participants otherwise marginalised from mainstream social science practice.
