Charity Sims-Jenkins Graduate Researcher, Social Work & Social Policy

Charity is a PhD Candidate with the Living with Disability Research Centre, supervised by Professor Christine Bigby and Dr Tal Araten-Bergman. Charity is working on a theory-informed approach for self-advocates with intellectual disability to share their experiences of self-determination with staff in disability services for people with intellectual disability. The aim of the approach will be to enhance staff understanding of the meaning and importance of respecting the rights, will and preferences of adult service users with intellectual disability. Charity’s work is supported by an Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship.
