Chorng Shin Wee Honorary Visiting Fellow, Chemistry

Chorng Shin received his B.Sc(Hons) from the National University of Singapore in 2006. He went on to do his M(Phil) in computational chemistry in HKUST under Prof. Wu Yundong from 2007-2008. Upon his return to Singapore in 2009, he spent one year in the National Institute of Education completing his postgraduate diploma in education.

Since 2010, he's teaching chemistry to Junior College students in Hwa Chong Institution. He was the H3 Chemistry Coordinator from 2011-2019 where he coordinated the H3 Chemistry Program in the school. He introduced several changes to the curriculum and provided the students with a series of rich learning experiences. He is also involved in teaching students from the Science and Math Talent Program where the students experience a deepened curriculum normally pitched at the first two years of undergraduate studies. Since 2015, he took on the role of senior teacher and helped in mentoring new and cross-level teachers.

Chorng Shin held several roles outside school, including being a member of the scientific committee of the Singapore Junior Chemistry Olympiad since its inaugural beginning in 2010, where he involved himself in setting questions in the initial years and later on vetting the questions for the theory round. He is also heading two network-learning communities - one for H2 Chemistry [1] on developing learning task for deeper learning and another for H3 Chemistry [2] where support is given to schools offering H3 Chemistry and he led in the preparation of learning and assessment materials.
