Dr Emmanuel Kuntsche Director, CAPR, Ctr Alcohol Policy Research (CAPR)

Professor Emmanuel Kuntsche has been trained in Psychology (University of Jena, Germany), Sociology (University of Jena, Germany), Public Health (University of Maastricht, the Netherlands) and Statistics (University of Essex, UK). He is currently investigating the development and transformation of alcohol-related cognition from early childhood into adolescence and the role of parental alcohol socialisation. His research interests also include the measurement of both alcohol consumption (e.g. using ecological momentary assessment, smartphone apps and transdermal monitors) and related cognition (e.g. by means of the Alcohol Expectancy Task he developed). Emmanuel has contributed to the supervision of 25 Masters and PhD theses in six different countries (including being currently Principal Supervisor of four PhD theses at La Trobe University) and successfully conducted or contributed to 52 national and international research projects. In total, he has obtained more than $15 million of external funding as PI or Co-PI through competitive grant proposals from national and international funding organisations. Emmanuel has had editorial appointments at eight international journals (currently Addiction, Drug and Alcohol Review, European Addiction Research, and the Journal of Behavioural Addictions). He also has been the Secretary of the Swiss Foundation of Alcohol Research (2013-2017) and is currently the Secretary of the Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol & other Drugs (APSAD, since 2018).
