Professor Eric Jones Emeritus Professor, Emeritus

Eric Lionel Jones is Emeritus Professor of Economics (Economic Systems and Ideas, foundation Professor of Economic History, 1975-1994). He was Professorial Fellow at the Melbourne Business School, University of Melbourne, until 2009 and is now Visiting Professor at the University of Exeter. He was born in Andover, Hampshire, in 1936 and educated at the Universities of Nottingham (B.A.) and Oxford (M.A., D.Phil.), earning the higher doctorate from Oxford (D.Litt.) in 1985. He taught in England at Oxford and Reading Universities and in the United States at Northwestern University, and has held many visiting positions, including at the Institutes of Advanced Study at Princeton, Berlin and Wassenaar (Netherlands). He has published 100 books and articles, including The European Miracle, Growth Recurring, Cultures Merging, and Locating the Industrial Revolution.
