Dr Emma Russell Senior Lecturer, Crime,Justice & Legal Studies

My research and teaching program focuses on criminalisation, incarceration and activism. It aims to build knowledge about gender, racial and sexual inequalities; queer, feminist and anti-carceral social movements; and carceral geographies. I have experience in a range of qualitative research methods, including interviews, archival research, media analysis, ethnography and case studies. As an interdisciplinary scholar, my research draws from and contributes to the fields of critical carceral studies and queer and sensory criminologies. My research and teaching aims to foster critical thinking, activist engagement and commitment to social justice.
