Dr Fiona Carroll Lecturer, Biochemistry

Dr Carroll completed her undergraduate studies majoring in pharmacology and psychology and her PhD in neuropharmacology at Monash University. She was then awarded an NHMRC-INSERM exchange fellowship to work at the CNRS Institut de Pharmacologie Endocrinologie in Montpellier, France where she studied the structure-function relationships of G protein coupled neurotransmitter receptors. She returned to Monash University and subsequently the Howard Florey Institute to continue this work.
Fiona commenced work at La Trobe University in 2008 and has become largely education focussed. While initially, coordinating and teaching laboratory subjects for undergraduate biochemistry and postgraduate biotechnology (2008-2010), her focus soon shifted to Biomedical Science. Fiona has been involved in teaching and developing curriculum for subjects at all levels of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Bachelor of Biomedicine since 2010. She acted as a course advisor for Biomedical Science from 2010 and took over course coordination of Biomedical Science and Biomedicine in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
Fiona meets regularly with the Biomedical Science course coordinators from other institutes within Melbourne and together they are undertaking research on the career aspirations and wellbeing of students studying Biomedical Science Courses.
