Dr Jency Thomas Lecturer Anatomy, Physiology Anatomy & Microbiology

Jency Thomas completed her doctoral degree from the Univeristy of Newcastle in 2013. Jency's doctoral research investigated the effect of type 2 diabetes on the region of the brain called hippocampus which plays a crucial role in consolidation of memory from short- to long-term. Jency's research has also interrogated the beneficial effects of nutraceuticals such as omega-3 and polyphenols on memory and cognition in both normal phase and in disease condition. With her experience in working with animal model of diabetes and understanding genetic mechanisms underlying cognitive impairment in diabetes, Jency is now translating her research into clinical studies to undertstand the impact of diabetes on mental health including cognitive impairment, depression, Anxiety and Alzheimers Disease.
