Professor Clinical Psychology (Child and Adolescence)
Dr Jordana Bayer is a Clinical Psychologist and academic with a focus on developing effective prevention programs for children's high prevalence mental health problems. Dr Bayer completed Honours Psychology at The University of Adelaide and then Master of Clinical Psychology at Flinders University of South Australia in 1994. As a registered Clinical Psychologist she was employed at Flinders Medical Centre (Child Protection Service) before relocating to Melbourne in 1996.
Dr Bayer completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne in 2003. This longitudinal research assessed the relative importance of key risk and protective family variables in the development of early childhood internalising (emotional) problems, to assist design of early prevention programs. Dr Bayer's postdoctoral research at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne continued to build an early career track record in children's mental health in the areas of randomised prevention trials, longitudinal aetiology studies, and early screening tools for community settings. Dr Bayer also lectured in The University of Melbourne's Clinical Child Psychology postgraduate program.
Dr Bayer joined the School of Psychology and Public Health at La Trobe University in 2011.
