Jessie Garland Graduate Researcher, Archaeology

PhD candidate and researcher in archaeology of the nineteenth century, under the supervision of Professor Susan Lawrence and Dr Peter Davies, with focus on the relationship between people and objects. My PhD research explores the availability and use of material goods in nineteenth century Christchurch, New Zealand, using archaeological assemblages excavated from the city after the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes. I have an interest in colonialism and colonial archaeology, urban archaeology and the development of cities, consumer culture, nineteenth century globalisation and the social meaning of objects.
