Dr Jacqui Richmond Adjunct Research Fellow, Aust Res Ctr Sex Hlth&Soc

Jacqui Richmond commenced working as a hepatology nurse in 1998 at St. Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne. She completed a MPH (Deakin University) in 2000 and a PhD in 2006 at the University of Melbourne. Jacqui undertook postdoctoral research at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina in 2007-2008.

Jacqui was awarded a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Translation of Research into Practice (TRIP) Fellowship, commencing in 2015 based between La Trobe University and Melbourne Health. The project aims to address the gap between optimal and current management of chronic hepatitis B through the development and implementation of a nurse-led model of care in a high hepatitis B prevalence area of Melbourne. This service will complement existing services, build capacity in the sector, and specifically target the need for improved screening, follow up and management of this vulnerable group of patients.

Jacqui has worked on several national consultancy projects including researching and writing the Australasian Hepatology Association (AHA) Practice Standards for the Hepatology Nurse (2015), the AHA Consensus-based Nursing Guidelines for the Care of Patients with Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Advanced Liver Disease and Hepatocellular Carcinoma (2012), and the AHA Competency Standards for the Hepatology Nurse (2008). Jacqui was the lead writer of the Third National Hepatitis C Strategy 2010-2013. She also managed the development of Hepatitis Australia's national hepatitis B speakers bureau in 2013-14.

Jacqui is passionate about viral hepatitis workforce development and building the capacity of the health sector to better support people living with viral hepatitis. She is the principle educator for the Australasian Society for HIV Medicine (ASHM) National Hepatitis B Nursing Course. The course curriculum was developed in 2011 and has been offered in five Australian jurisdictions on eight occasions.
