PhD: Participatory and Experimental GIS in the Willandra Lakes Region World Heritage Area, NSW (2015-2019)
Project Brief: This research demonstrates the need for experimental and participatory GIS (pGIS) within Australian archaeology. The project develops collaborative GIS models of the pre-European landscape in the Willandra Lakes Region World Heritage area with the Mutthi Mutthi, Ngyiampaa, and Paakantji communities. Incorporating the Traditional Owners’ biocultural knowledge and map biographies into analytical GIS models situates the tangible archaeological record within the context of holistic land use and occupancy models.
