Kate Ashman Lecturer - Accounting/Work Practicum, Accounting & Data Analytics

Kate worked as an auditor for five years in Melbourne commencing with Chartered Accounting firm Moore Stephens Hughes Fincher and then moving to the Big 4 Chartered Accounting firm Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu where she completed the CA program. Her auditing was primarily focussed on medium sized metropolitan firms that were privately owned and ranged from manufacturers of lace curtains, fishing supplies and bricks through to golf courses, financing businesses, trust accounts and even Tattersalls.

She relocated to Bendigo and continued to work as a senior auditor before commencing sessional work for La Trobe's Bendigo Campus. Kate formally joined La Trobe in 2009 and has completed her PhD into accounting education, an area she is very interested in as she also holds a Graduate Diploma in Education (with Distinction).

Kate is the Academic Coordinator for the Bendigo campus overseeing the administration of the Business School. Additionally, Kate works with the first year students teaching the semester 1 and 2 compulsory Accounting units and enjoys assisting students to adjust to University life. She finds it rewarding teaching them Auditing in third year and seeing the development in their skills and confidence as they are on the cusp of becoming professional accountants.

The Bendigo Internship program is also co-ordinated by Kate and up to a third of the Bendigo second year students undertake work experience whilst completing a 3rd year elective. This program is thoroughly enjoyed by students as they are able to gain practical experience in the field of their chosen profession and complete an elective unit at the same time. We could not undertake this program without the ongoing support of our local accounting firms and businesses.
