Dr Lauren Gawne Lecturer, Linguistics

Lauren Gawne is a David Myers Research Fellow in the Department of Languages and Linguistics. Lauren's research focuses on evidentiality and gesture, with a speciality in Tibeto-Burman languages. Her research is underpinned by an interest in critical approaches to language documentation. Lauren has also worked on internet English.

Lauren's PhD from The University of Melbourne focused on the use of evidentiality in Lamjung Yolmo. In 2014/15 she was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and from 2015-2017 she was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Linguistics at SOAS, funded through the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme.

Lauren runs the generalist linguistics website Superlinguo, hosts the podcast Lingthusiasm and writes 'By Lingo' a regular column for The Big Issue (Australia) about the history of everyday words.
