Leah Mae Aportadera Graduate Researcher, Social Work & Social Policy

Leah Mae Aportadera is a PhD researcher in Social Work and Social Policy at La Trobe University. Her thesis is focused on the importance and development of Social Work with Indigenous communities in the Philippines.

In the Philippines, Leah is an Assistant Professor in the Social Work Program of Social Sciences Cluster, in Ateneo de Davao University, where she teaches and supervises in undergraduate and postgraduate studies. She is an experienced social worker and her research focuses on women and children, community development, disaster management, migration (internally displaced people and refugees). Her expertise also includes local development planning, outcome evaluation and research into vulnerable groups and sectors. She also works with various grassroots organisations and cause-oriented groups as part of her advocacy in the Davao Region. Leah has also worked with refugees at the Thai-Myanmar Border during her internship program for her Masters.
