Dr Leesa Hooker Research Fellow, Judith Lumley Centre

Leesa is a Maternal & Child Health (MCH) nurse, midwife and teaching and research academic at the La Trobe University Judith Lumley Centre and La Trobe Rural Health School. She has been working in the area of women's and children's health for the past 25 years and in 2016, completed her PhD titled "Strengthening MCH nurse practice for women and children experiencing family violence". She has been the recipient of a La Trobe University Nancy Millis Award for PhD Thesis of Exceptional Merit. Leesa's teaching commitments include teaching and coordinating several Masters level Child, Family and Community nursing subjects and she co-supervisors a number of PhD students. Her research interests include intimate partner violence, rural women's health and improving health care service response to abused women and children.
