Dr Michelle Newton Snr Lecturer - Dual Reg, Midwifery

Michelle is a Senior Lecturer in the Midwifery Programs at La Trobe University in Melbourne and the School of Nursing and Midwifery Director of Teaching and Learning.

Michelle's experience in several Australian states and territories includes hospital and university based midwifery education roles, and varied models of midwifery care, including continuity models.

She completed a PhD in 2013 that explored the implementation of continuity of midwifery-led care in a caseload model at two Victorian sites working with researchers from the Judith Lumley Centre (formerly Mother and Child Health Research) La Trobe University, Royal Women's Hospital and Barwon Health.

Her current research activities are focusing on further understanding issues of workforce sustainability in caseload models, and the implementation of caseload models designed to meet the needs of specific groups of women. Additionally, Michelle has interest in exploring the impact of teaching and curriclum strategies to enhance student learning, including contuniuty of care experiences in midwifery education.
