Dr Maria Elander Senior Lecturer, Law Melbourne

Maria Elander is a senior lecturer at La Trobe Law School. Her research is primarily in the broader field of international criminal justice, and engages with theories in cultural and feminist legal studies. Her work examines questions of representation and its limits (victimhood, gender and the visual), and has to date focused primarily on the Khmer Rouge Tribunal in Cambodia. Her monograph, Figuring Victims in International Criminal Justice, the Case of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal (Routledge, 2018) won the 2019 ECR Penny Pether Prize, awarded by the Law, Literature and Humanities Association of Australasia.
