Dr Hulett completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Mebourne majoring in Biochemistry and Cell Biology and his PhD studies in the field of Molecular Immunology at the Austin Research Institute. In 1998 Mark was awarded an NHMRC postdoctoral fellowship and joined the John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) in Canberra where he performed pioneering research by cloning a key enzyme in cell invasion, heparanase. Dr Hulett was awarded a Viertel Senior Medical Research Fellowship in 2002, and established the Cancer and Molecular Immunology laboratory at JCSMR to study cell invasion during inflammation, tumour metastasis and angiogenesis. In 2008, Dr Hulett moved his lab to La Trobe University to continue his research in inflammatory disease and tumour progression. Dr Hulett was president of the Australia Society for Medical Research in 2008. He has published over 95 research articles and won numerous awards.
