Maggie Flood Academic, Nursing

Maggie Flood’s research focus is primary postpartum haemorrhage and perinatal data quality in Victoria. Maggie has been a midwife since 1985 and has worked on many projects researching maternal health and wellbeing. She was the project coordinator of the Caseload midwifery for women at low risk of medical complications: a randomised controlled trial (COSMOS). For her PhD, completed in 2018, Maggie investigated how postpartum haemorrhage is reported around Australia; conducted a statewide validation study of births in 2011 in the Victorian Perinatal Data Collection and analysed data for more than 760,000 births from this Collection to investigate the incidence, trends and risk factors for primary postpartum haemorrhage. Her findings have been reported in several publications. Maggie is keen to explore ways to reduce the rising incidence of postpartum haemorrhage in Victoria.
