I was born and grew up in Tauranga, Aotearoa New Zealand, beside the Pacific Ocean and under the watch of the mountain Mauao. I now make my home in Melbourne, Australia. I believe that non-indigenous people and members of majority groups have a moral responsibility to make positive contributions to social cohesion. My interest in cross-culturally inspired social transformations began in my youth, when I attended a school rich in Māori culture. Today in my doctoral research project I explore the often-unexpected personal transformations experienced by many non-Māori people who learn te reo Māori, the Māori language.
