Melanie Bish Senior Lecturer, Nursing LTRHS

The career trajectory of Melanie demonstrates a commitment to professional development in both academic and industry arenas. Melanie has held senior management positions in industry and has current clinical experience in the acute sector. At present, Melanie is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Rural Nursing and Midwifery which extends across four rural campuses of the La Trobe Rural Health School: Bendigo, Shepparton, Albury-Wodonga and Mildura. Melanie has completed a PhD(Nursing) with her dissertation focusing on fostering rural nurse leadership, is published internationally and is a reviewer for several journals. Having presented at national and international nursing conferences, Melanie is an active researcher with particular interest in leadership, structural empowerment, organisational commitment, global mobilisation of the health workforce and cultural competence . Melanie is passionate about the future of health care in rural and regional Australia and enjoys teaching into undergraduate, international and post graduate nursing programs. In 2015 Melanie completed the Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Curriculum, Teaching and Learning and is the lead academic developing a new subject Engagement in Professional Nursing which will be delivered in the 3rd year of the Bachelor of Nursing and also in the off shore Singapore Bachelor of Nursing.
