Dr Safi Safiullah Lecturer, Finance, Finance

Dr. M. Safiullah, CPA serves as a Lecturer in Finance at La Trobe Business School, La Trobe University, Australia. Previously, he worked as a Sessional Lecturer in Finance at The University of Newcastle, Australia; and at the Charles Darwin University, Sydney, Australia. He also worked as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor in Banking at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Safi’s research interests are in the areas of Islamic banking, corporate governance, climate change finance and Islamic corporate finance. His academic works appeared in distinguished academic outlets in finance such as Journal of Corporate Finance, International Review of Finance, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, Global Finance Journal, Journal of Behavioral & Experimental Finance. His research has also been presented in academic conferences including the Finance of climate change conference in Paris, France; BAFA corporate governance SIG conference in UK; Applied financial modelling conference in Melbourne, Australia; Auckland Finance Meeting in Queenstown, New Zealand; FIFC-INCEIF Islamic finance conference in Malaysia; Islamic banking and research conference, Saudi Arabia. Safi also serves as a member of the conference organising committees for Behavioural finance and capital markets (BFCM) conference and financial markets and corporate governance (FMCG) conference. He also serves as a reviewer of peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Corporate Finance, the European Journal of Finance, International Review of Economics and Finance, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal and Global Finance Journal.

Safi teaches financial institutions management, corporate finance and financial statement analysis. He received La Trobe Business School Dean’s letter of recognition on the great results in Student Feedback. He was awarded ' La Trobe Business School Award for Exemplary Contribution to Mission 2020'. He also supervises PhD students.

Dr. Safi received his PhD in Finance from the University of Newcastle on a fully funded postgraduate research scholarship. He received MSc with Distinction from the Birkbeck, University of London as a recipient of prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship awarded by the government of United Kingdom. He is also a recipient of Dean’s Honour Award and Dean’s Merit Award in his MBA and Bachelor (Hons) degrees, respectively. Safi was the winner of 2017 3-Minute Thesis competition at the Newcastle Business School, University of Newcastle. Safi stood 2nd in HSC Exam in Bangladesh.
