Dr Nicole Ryan Lecturer, Law Melbourne

Dr. Nicole Ryan is a lecturer and early career researcher in Criminology in the Law School. Nicole was awarded her PhD from Griffith University in 2019 on the topic of “Exploring Prisoner Reentry in Queensland: A Comparative Analysis of Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Ex-Prisoners’ Experiences During the Reentry Process”, for which she was awarded the Award of Excellence in Research Thesis. Nicole’s research is focused on identifying and understanding key differences in, and between, Indigenous and non-Indigenous people’s risk factors for reincarceration by exploring their prison and reintegration experiences. This research is critical to the Australian Federal Government’s criminal justice targets for ‘closing the gap’ in rates of imprisonment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by 2040.
