Dr Prue Atkins Lecturer Social Work (TF), Social Work & Social Policy

Prue Atkins is currently a lecturer in Social Work and Social Policy at La Trobe University. She has worked as a practitioner, manager, researcher, consultant and academic in child and family social work for over 30 years. In 2016 she completed her PhD which focused on the implementation of innovative social work practice and for which she was awarded a Nancy Millis Medal for outstanding thesis. Her research interests include practice innovation and its implementation; knowledge building and translation; the influence of organisations on practice; the role of frontline managers; family violence program design; and, children’s experience of organised sport.
Prue is the former Director of Organisational Development at Berry Street. She has also worked with State and Local Government as a caseworker and counsellor, as well as in program design and evaluation, community development and social planning roles.
