This document presents the findings of the review: ‘Pastoral care and chaplaincy provision within Metropolitan Health and Aged Care Services in the State of Victoria’. The report provides an outline of the review process and presents the quantitative and qualitative datum collected from Metropolitan Health and Aged Care Services in Melbourne and Geelong with a particular focus upon chaplaincy services. A large volume of data was collected and provides a snap shot of the staffing levels and funding sources for chaplaincy and pastoral care. This information demonstrates a need for strategic planning for chaplaincy and pastoral care so as to develop a more equitable distribution of resources and common standards for best practice. This report recommends some possible ways forward in developing a professional chaplaincy and pastoral care service that is responsive to the changing needs of the health sector.
