Dr Renae Fomiatti Research Officer, Aust Res Ctr Sex Hlth&Soc

Renae is a Research Officer at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society, with expertise in qualitative research and the sociology of alcohol and other drug use and recovery. Her research is informed by contemporary feminist theory and Science and Technology Studies. She previously held an appointment at the National Drug Research Institute, Curtin University.

She currently works across several projects in the Drugs, Gender and Sexuality (DruGS) research program: 1) an investigation into the impediments to the uptake of take-home naloxone in Australia; 2) an analysis of the social and gendered meanings given to performance and image-enhancing drug (PIED) use, and the hepatitis C information needs of PIED consumers; 3) a study of experiences of new hepatitis C treatments and; 4) a collaboration with South Western Sydney Local Health District on a range of social research projects exploring lived experiences of alcohol and other drug use and drug treatment.

Her research focuses on experiences of drug consumption and the self; the biopolitics of health and the body; drug governance and treatment; and stigma and subjectivity.
