Dr Renae Fomiatti Research Officer, Aust Res Ctr Sex Hlth&Soc

Renae is a qualitative researcher at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society, with expertise in the sociology of addiction and recovery. Her research is informed by contemporary feminist theory and science and technology studies. She previously held an appointment at the National Drug Research Institute, Curtin University.

She currently coordinates an ARC project titled ‘Understanding performance and image-enhancing drug (PIED) injecting to improve health and minimise hepatitis C transmission’, which focuses on hepatitis C knowledge, injecting practices, the body and masculinity in the context of performance and image-enhancing drug injecting. She also manages a South Western Sydney Local Health District-funded project exploring the lived experiences of people who continue to drink heavily despite significant health problems.

More broadly, her research focuses on experiences of drug consumption and the self; the biopolitics of health; drug governance and treatment; and stigma and subjectivity.
