Ron Knevel Year Co-ordinator Oral Health, Dentistry

Ron Knevel has been a lecturer in Dental Hygiene since 1986. He worked at Academic Centre of Dentistry in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, School for Oral Health Care professionals, as lecturer and pre-clinical and clinical coordinator, international coordinator and as a curriculum coordinator. Next to his work as a lecturer and clinical demonstrator he has worked in general practice and at the Department of Periodontology of ACTA. He has been an invited speaker on several national and international conferences in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia (including Europerio and the International Symposium on Dental Hygiene). He is a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Dental Hygiene and Dental Health (the Journal of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy). In 2008 he received the Dutch Dental Hygienist Award from the Dutch Society of Periodontology (2008) for contributions to the promotion of oral health on a national and international level. He is the founder and chair of the Buddhi Bangara Foundation to promote and develop sustainable oral health promotion activities in Nepal. He is a cofounder of the Dental Hygienists Association Nepal. He developed several websites about oral hygiene techniques/non surgical periodontal instrumentation techniques. He has been a writer of chapters in books. He is writer and cowriter of several international publications in scientific journals.
Since 2009 he works as a senior lecturer at La Trobe University. He is the discipline lead for the Bachelor of Oral Health Sciences. He established an Oral Health Promotion Training Centre in Nepal in October 2010 (3-year project). He is interested in the influence of professional power relationships and cultural-economic context on oral health workforce planning. He critically examined the introduction of dental hygienist education in Nepal. He is interested in educational research into the potential of ePortfolios in oral health sciences and dentistry to facilitate learning.
