Dr Ross O'Shea Senior Lecturer, Physiology, Physiology Anatomy & Microbiology

Ross completed his PhD at the Austin Hospital (University of Melbourne, Department of Medicine) in 1994 and was awarded an NHMRC post-doctoral research Fellowship to work at the Scripps Research Institute (La Jolla, USA). He returned to Australia in 1997, based first in the Department of Pharmacology, Monash Univesity and then moving to The Florey Institute in 2003. Ross has been at La Trobe University since 2010.

Ross's research focusses on the mechanisms underlying neuronal death in neurodegenerative diseases (such as Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease) and the role of non-neuronal cells in protecting against this neuronal death.

Ross was awarded a Pro Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Award in 2017.
