Professor Richard Speed Pro Vice-Chancellor (Regional), La Trobe Regional Office

Professor Richard Speed is Pro Vice-Chancellor (Regional) at La Trobe University, with the primary role of overseeing the development and implementation of the university's regional strategy. Regional campuses account for roughly 20 per cent of La Trobe's students and revenue, and La Trobe is the biggest provider of education to regional students in Victoria.

Richard arrived in Australia 20 years ago, joining Melbourne Business School, part of the University of Melbourne and arguably Australia's leading business school. He was appointed ANZ Professor of Marketing Strategy in 2001, and served as Associate Dean (Faculty Resources). In the UK he studied at Oxford and Loughborough Universities in the UK, and taught at King's College London.

A marketing academic by discipline, his research interests focus on techniques for building and sustaining valuable brands. He has a particular interest in the use of sponsorship as a marketing resource, and in using marketing in non-profit settings, including politics, public service delivery and higher education.

Richard has consulted and presented on marketing strategy to a wide variety of international and Australian companies, including Glaxo SmithKline, IBM Asia-Pacific, PwC and Ford Australia, as well as numerous not-for-profit organisations, such as Department of Human Services, Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Zoos Victoria and Riding for the Disabled.
