Dr Sam Spiers Academic, Archaeology

As an Historical Archaeologist, my area of research includes African Archaeology and the African Diaspora. As part of the Central Region Project, Ghana, I am particularly interested in the socio-political transformations in coastal Ghana during the opening of the Atlantic world with coastal trade between Europe, Africa and the Americas. While most of my research has been in Ghana, I also have experience working on prehistoric and historic sites in Australia, and historic sites in Sierra Leone, America and Dominica. Other research interests include the archaeology of complex societies, the history of archaeology, heritage management and landscape archaeology.
