Susan O'Neill Graduate Researcher, Public Health LTRHS

Susan O’Neill is currently undertaking a PhD study titled ‘Optimising Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) care in rural Australia: Investigation of the current issues around ENT care, and development, implementation, and evaluation of health interventions’; this scholarship funded project is supported by the industry partnership between the Murray Primary Health Network (PHN) and La Trobe University.

The ‘Perils of Place’ report by the Grattan Institute identified four ENT hotspots in rural Victoria; two of which are located in the Murray PHN region. These hotspots highlight the inadequate ENT care delivery in the region, resulting in a higher than average rate of potentially preventable hospitalisations. Based in Mildura, this research will inform future directions to develop and implement interventions to address hotspots and optimise care in ENT in rural settings.
