Shauni Omond Graduate Researcher, Ecology, Environment & Evolution

I am investigating the evolution of sleep and the potential mechanisms involved in its persistence throughout evolution. My focus animal is the humble flatworm (Girardia tigrina) and in my honours work I characterised sleep in this animal (publication below). My PhD will focus on using other methods and mechanisms used to identify and manipulate sleep to shed light on the complexities of this enigmatic behaviour, in some of the most simple animals.
