Dr Sean MacDermott Snr Lecturer, Social Work Social Policy, Social Work LTRHS

My research interests are in rural/regional health and ageing. This includes related topics such as End of Life planning, palliative care, health workforce, telehealth, and travel for healthcare. I have a strong track record in health-services design/redesign and have worked with over thirty different health services and aged-care organisations across almost all Australian States and Territories. Immediately prior to joining La Trobe, I was the National Project Manager for the National Rollout and Evaluation of the Dementia Care in Hospitals Program.
I have post-graduate qualifications and expertise in health, social science, research, and change management. Partly as a result of this eclectic background I have a strong grounding in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. In addition to having held a number of management roles in industry, I have been employed as a Lecturer at Monash and Federation Universities and a Senior Research Fellow at RMIT where I was Chief Investigator and Project Manager on a variety of projects mainly in the area of community health.
Originally from Ireland, I have lived and worked in Australia since 1998 and have been based in regional Victoria since 2008. Outside of work, I enjoy home renovations, good conversation, consuming good coffee and compiling and solving cryptic crosswords.
