Sara Oveissi Research Officer, Biochemistry

Dr. Sara Oveissi is an immunology research scientist with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology and Antigen Processing/Presentation. She completed a B.Sc. in Microbiology and Molecular Biology. In 2009, she obtained her M. Sc. in Molecular Biotechnology from the University Putra Malaysia, and then earned a Ph.D. degree in Medical Immunology from the University of Melbourne in August 2014. Her earlier works focused on the generation of DNA vaccine against Influenza A virus and exploring the role of ESAT-6 of Mycobacterium tuberculosis as genetic adjuvant, while her latest researches have centered on studying viral and cell-associated antigen presentation. Therefor she has multidisciplinary research experience in molecular and immunological sciences of in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo systems using various cellular and molecular techniques as well as animal models. Following completion of her Ph.D. in 2014, she began her postdoctoral training at the La Trobe University in Melbourne investigating the role of defective ribosomal products in influenza-induced immune responses and studying the peptide-receptive requisite of H-2Kk molecule. In 2015, she also took the position as a laboratory manager. She is also interested in using molecular and genetic tools in development of therapeutical/ pharmaceutical studies.
