Dr Subir Sarker Research Fellow, Physiology Anatomy & Microbiology

I started my independent research career at La Trobe University with the support of School of Life Science fellowship in 2016 followed by an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award fellowship (2020) in the area of Molecular and Structural Virology.

My primary research interest is applying genomic and structural biology approaches to help answer evolutionary questions and develop a deeper understanding of the macromolecular structure of viral proteins, with a strong focus on the conservation of animal health crucial for sustainable ecosystems. Much of my research interest is combining information about genomic and structural modelling on viruses infecting animals to improve the way we manage disease emergence.

The overall focus of my laboratory is to explore molecular evolution of viruses and understand the structure and function of essential proteins in viruses infecting animal to guide the development of potential anti-viral options or vaccine against deadly viral infections in animals.
