Sophia TippingGraduate Researcher, Social Work & Social Policy
Sophia Tipping is a Research Officer and PhD candidate with a professional background in social work. Her research interests centre on democracy and the political citizenship of people with intellectual disabilities in Australia.
Sophia graduated with first class honours in a Bachelor of Human Services/Masters of Social Work and went on to practice in community development, sector development and in clinical settings in a range of fields. She has published works in academic journals, has presented at international conferences and has tutored in under graduate social work subjects at La Trobe University. Sophia is currently working on LiDs research projects in partnership with the Victorian Electoral Commission and Inclusion Melbourne. Her PhD is on the perceptions and experience of voting by people with intellectual disabilities in Australia.
Sophia co-produces the Australasian Society for Intellectual Disabilities' (ASID) Research to Practice podcast, the treasurer of the Victorian branch committee and is a director on the ASID board of governance. She was a student representative on the La Trobe University School of Allied Health Graduate Research Coordinators Forum from 2015 to 2017 and helped establish the School's Graduate Research Society.
