Dr Steven Tudor Senior Lecturer, Law Melbourne

I came to the La Trobe Law School with backgrounds in academic philosophy, legal practice, and the public service -- and my legal academic teaching and research interests reflect those backgrounds. I believe that teaching and research in law school should maintain a clear sense of the important practical contexts in which the law is created, contested and applied. At the same time, lawyers and law students should recognise and engage with the deep and often controversial intellectual issues found in almost every area of the law. The law is first and foremost a real-world practice, not a theory, but it is a practice that is done best by those who have thought hard about what that practice is and can be, and who are alive to the ideas and values that animate and shape it.
